So here I am sitting in a lovely stone house on a hill in deepest darkest Italy – deepest because it’s as far from an airport as you can get and darkest because it’s insisting on pissing down with rain and covering everything as far as the eye can see in thick cloud – teaching a retreat on loving in a grounded way. Loving and being open to receive love, as in the innate goodness in the heart of each of us, is the trigger for unleashing miracles, quantum connections, in your life and the lives of those around you. But loving in an ungrounded way, as in loving from the imagination rather than from the body, merely upends the lover and the recipient – it conflates and confuses the love with attachment and control.
Loving in a grounded way, you set yourself and the other free.
And it’s working nicely. After the session this afternoon, people’s faces had visibly changed – everyone looked ten years younger – transfiguration by love.
Tomorrow is due to see the sun shine again but that’s by the by. What I’m actually itching to pass observation on is the profound effect this bout of Mercury in retrograde has been having on the world.
Mercury in retrograde
In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, it describes the effect of what appears to be Mercury rolling backwards through the sky instead of forwards. It lasts three weeks each time and occurs three times a year. It’s actually an optical illusion created by a complex arrangements of ropes and pulleys in the night sky. But the effect is nonetheless real as steel. Mercury is said, by astrologers, to rule travel and communications. And in over 35 years of assiduously studying Mercury in retrograde, though having watched some real mash-ups occur, I’ve never till now witnessed such an unholy mash-up as has just occurred.
Emperor’s new clothes
Pretty much the whole, air-dependent global infrastructure was threatened by the edict to close the airways down on account of an invisible cloud of ash, which turned out to be harmless in any case. The whole world was held in thrall and robbed of billions of money by something that to all intents and purposes wasn’t even there.
Now that’s what I call theatre at least on the level of the emperor’s new clothes.
What I found most stimulating about it, aside from the wonderful training in being super-flexible – I was personally caught by it and had to keep changing travel plans about once an hour, each time costing myself more and more money but its only money – was that moment when it dawned that this could have brought the entre global economy down and even more seriously, were the second volcano to have erupted, which it still may do, the whole planet might well have been shrouded in volcanic ash to the point of a nuclear winter that would have brought us all swiftly to meet our maker/s.
Tenuous footing
It was that beautiful window into the underlying reality of how extremely tenuous is our footing here in this material plane illusion.
So bless Mercury and it’s backward flowing propensity for being the most marvelous spiritual teacher and I’m happy there’s only about one more week to go before it turns in the right direction again, by which time, I should be flying/walking/cycling or whatevering back to sunny loony-bin Ibiza for the start of the summer season and a profusion of music from me and my collaborators in the Dub Spirit and Green Rabbit projects, to which I’m looking deeply forward.
Meanwhile, off to dinner now in the Italian hills and must say I’m glad we’ve had this chat.
Not sure it established anything new but it was fun talking nonetheless.
