Spotting the jewel in every inconvenience
Waiting for a voice processor to finish replicating the effect I was feeling in my head, of coming in and out as if through another dimension and which I’d just recorded for you in the new, rather beautiful, if I say so myself, 13 minute, 41 seconds Superflow Audio Meditation , I found myself outside in the cold Mediterranean winter rain to get a clearer signal, answering the phone to John Kells, my original tai chi master, who was calling me from Wales to discuss his latest findings in terms of how to describe the Ineffable and point the way to being one with it, in our ongoing dialogue, whose purpose is to help him find the way to best present his findings to the world at large. Shivering having got the better of me, we said goodbye till later.
Masters of guiding-in
Then as I finished mixing the tune, interspersed by doing fairly vigorous yet focused hsing i and tai chi forms to keep warm - central heating in wintertime Ibiza leaves much to the imagination - the phone rang again. It was Spencer Mac – I realize as I write incidentally, that both John and Spencer are in my Supercharged Taoist book, both appearing as living exemplars of the Taoist way, yet each operating at different ends of the scale: John from decades of strict training, Spencer totally unschooled. Spencer was calling with news of a truly masterful ‘guiding-in’, as he puts it – manifesting something incredible without effort.
So there I was now, shivering slightly, my internet down, probably on account of the rain, you can never tell what makes what work or not around here, a beautiful new tune mixed, compressed and ready to go for you, and instruction by illustration, in the finer aspects of Taoist practice conveyed by two masters. In fact here I am, because I’ve just noticed the story’s caught up with where we are now: me sitting here writing, you sitting/standing/lying/crouching/walking there reading it across time and space.
Eliciting the miracle flow
And when I contemplate the infinite number of details that were required to facilitate this: the cab office, all their complex computer booking system, the car, the gas, the road system, the airport, the complexities of the airport system, the passenger flow system, the control tower system, the air traffic control, the fuel refineries, the fuel delivery system, the electricity supply, the training schools for the pilots and crew, the mobile phone systems, the social organization enabling me to call ahead and have Lenny put the heating on for me – alas not quite soon enough – the internet itself (at the time of writing a mere fantasy/memory/hope), and all the parenting and schooling that went into each of the millions of people involved in all that and into the billions who people the planet, for everyone is playing an intrinsic part – when I contemplate all of that, it naturally leads my mind to focus instead on the presence informing all the details, no matter how complex – the Tao.
And it causes my heart to naturally give thanks for being here as witness to and active agent of its ineffably majestic unfolding.
